Before jump into the quick look guidelines, two big questions:

@        Why optimizing the website is so important?

@        Why is the title tag so important?

Because it helps:

Web Browsers:  To display the web page name by retrieving the content from the “title tag” in their tabs.

Search Engines:  To make the headline clickable while listing on search engine result pages and to determine the topic and analyze the content of the web page.

User Experience:  To find usable content and valuable service providers as well as easy to remember and bookmark your website.

A Quick Look At Optimization Guidelines

Unique Page Titles

Accurate page titles include only important keyword for which the page content is about.  Google limits your title to 69 characters, so make a short and unique page title for each page.  Do not repeat keyword in the title.  Make it user friendly.

Do not put too many keywords in a single page title.  Even if you manage to secure first page result position, it simply creates doubt that it provides little information of everything.

Useful “Description” Meta Tag

With 160 characters limit, use the description meta tag for best purposes.  Description should be actually the summary of the page.  You should assign a different description for each page.  Don’t use or avoid using generic words and copying and pasting entire content of the document.

Search engine gets more ideas about the page topic and content.  If users find the description interesting, most probably intend to visit the website.  Pick the best part of the web page that can describe easily what this page is all about.

Structure Of The URLs

Use simple URLs for the pages.  Much deeper URLs most like intend to create confusion for search engines as well as for users.  Use URLs in the form of directories for better navigation for crawlers as well as for users.

Home Page Optimization

Use it for best navigation, what you offer, what you have, who you are, how to contact you, etc.

HTML Site Map Page

An HTML site map page not only helps search engines to index all of your web pages, but also helps users to take a look at what is on your website.  It also helps creating your website feed.

Quality Content And Services

This is what Google as well as users like the most.  Interesting sites will increase their visibility by their own.  Check again for the quality of the content as well as the services.

Anchor Text

Anchor text doubles the chance of your web page to get index fast as well as get higher ranking.  Use only your root keywords as an anchor text.

Image Optimization

Use your root keywords in the “Alt tag” for image optimization.  Google search engine robot can only read the Alt tag for your image.

Google follows around 200 criteria while providing the result.  No one can go so much in depth, so do not try to take it much.  Just follow the simple guidelines which I have presented as a quick look for Google optimization.
