Google Offers readies to take on Groupon

Google Offers is search giant Google’s attempt at creating a daily deals competitor for Groupon after it reportedly declined Google’s 6 billion acquisition offer in December last year.

Now Groupon is getting ready for an IPO, and sitting pretty having raised 950 million from the likes of Andreessen Horowitz, Greylock partners and Battery Ventures.

Groupon has a head start over Google Offers with 70 million subscribers and a top of mind brand recall. Now it has also poached Margo Georgiadis, vice president of global sales operations at Google, to be new Groupon COO.

Google have its might but have a tough task on its hand to win this battle.
